Exhibition Guide to arguably the largest art installation in the world.

The group show now includes over a million contributors and more than a decade of work. Some have added to it nearly every day since its inception. Its canvas extends across 1,550 miles of bicycle routes in all five New York boroughs.

The artists began this project without knowing it. Even today, many would be surprised by their membership.

Each rider comes to the work for different reasons. Some are driven by necessity, delivering food or commuting to work, often in terrible weather. Others ride for pleasure, soaking in the city on a perfect day.

At intersections, the markings grow dense and interwoven. Here, riders brake to avoid disaster. These are recordings of the city’s dramatic moments, the rush of noradrenaline made visible.

These photographs represent a statistically insignificant selection of the work on view across the city. Includes a Gallery Map.

The mark of the tire
is kin to a brushstroke in
Japanese calligraphy.

In both, the sudden whip
captures the presence
and heart of its maker.

Shot and produced in September 2026 by Eric Antonow.
